Feline and Small Mammal Adoption Procedure

If you are interested in adopting you may come to the Shelter during adoption hours and have a look. We suggest that you come early enough to view the cats and small mammals, giving yourself enough time make a decision.

  1. The staff at the SPCA will take you to see the cats and try to get a feel for what you are looking for. They will be available to answer any questions and to match you with a forever pet.
  2. Once you have found your match and you are ready to adopt, you will need to fill in an Adoption Application. You will be required to bring a photo ID and your Landlord's contact information, if you are a renter; which allows the SPCA to verify that you are able to have pets on the property.
  3. If you have roommates, the SPCA will also require their contact information to ensure that they are willing to have a cat in the house.
  4. Once your application is approved (usually same day) the adoption process may begin.
  5. We do ask for an adoption fee to be paid, as this enables the SPCA to continue to provide necessary quality care to all animals in our Shelter.
  6. Any animal that you adopt will have been spayed or neutered, given deworming medication, flea prevention, vaccinations and a microchip.
  7. For kitten adoptions, the cost of the second vaccination (if not already provided) will be the financial responsibility of the adopter.
  8. If interested in adopting please bring a carrier with you, as we do not have any to spare. The SPCA does have Cardboard Carriers available for sale for $15.
