Upper Primary Schools

 

Below is a list of lessons for upper primary level students to enhance and expand their learning experience in curriculum areas such as English, Mathematics, Health/Life Skills, Citizenship and Biology.  Each lesson is about 30-40 minutes in length and is accompanied with a class activity. Expansion activities can be provided to the teachers upon request. 

 

STAGE 4

 

Too Many Pets:  learn about the problem of pet overpopulation and explore solutions to the problem.

 

 Dog Breeds: Explore the origin of different breeds and what traits they have specific to the breed

 

Who AM I? This activity serves as an excellent introduction to considering some of the characteristics and qualities that farm animals and humans share.

 

 

 

STAGE 5

 

Too Many Pets:  learn about the problem of pet overpopulation and explore solutions to the problem.

 

Thinking Numbers: this lesson uses word problems and the four number operations to calculate the cost of keeping a pet.

 

Fact or Fiction: learn the difference between the myths and the facts about cats, which will help the students to be more compassionate toward them.

 

 

 

STAGE 6

 

Too Many Pets:  learn about the problem of pet overpopulation and explore solutions to the problem.

 

 Fact or Fiction:  learn the difference between the myths and the facts about cats which will help the students to be more compassionate toward them.

 

 Graphing Statistics about Pets:  learn how to use a double bar graph by polling other students about their feelings and experiences with pets.  Students will also have the opportunity to think about how pets affect their lives.

 

 Add it up:  learn about the costs of having a pet and learn why pets are a long-term commitment.

 

Working with Animals: explore the careers available in the field of Animal Science.
