Cute and cuddly pets — snapped by their doting owners — are the stars of a charity calendar which has just gone on sale.

Scores of animal lovers entered a photography competition run by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) for the 2008 calendar.

Rosalie Powell, from the society, said: “We had almost 200 of the most amazing pictures submitted. The quality of the pictures just keeps getting better every year and the selection committee had a very hard time deciding on the winning pictures.

Rosalie Powell, from the society, said: “We had almost 200 of the most amazing pictures submitted. The quality of the pictures just keeps getting better every year and the selection committee had a very hard time deciding on the winning pictures.

“We receive so many great pictures and we can only use a limited number for the calendar so we decided that going forward to enable us to showcase the pictures we receive that at next year’s SPCA Animal Expo, normally held in October, we will be putting the photos we receive for the calendar competition on display so the public will see what a hard time we have choosing.”

The winners of the competition celebrated at a cocktail party earlier this month. The calendar, costing $8, is on sale at Noah’s Ark, Animal and Garden House, Body Shop, All Wrapped Up, AS Coopers, Brighton Nurseries and the Bermuda Book Store. All proceeds go to benefit animals at the SPCA shelter in Paget.
