Volunteer and make a difference……one animal at a time!
Shelter volunteer’s work closely with our staff to help make sure the 5 freedoms can be met at all times.
The volunteers assist with activities involving our dog care, cat, rabbit and small animal care, kennel and general shelter care. Volunteers can also volunteer for various, light administrative tasks, reception duties, special events, fundraising, advocacy and so much more. Volunteers are a highly valued resource to our society and make a tremendous difference to the lives of so many animals. Volunteers are asked to commit to regular hours/day(s) where possible.
Dogs (Adults only) takes place between 7:45am – 12pm and 3:30pm – 6pm. In the summer months the afternoon walks may be restricted to the property around the shelter due to the heat. In addition to dog walking, other dog tasks include, socializing, bathing and grooming, cleaning kennels, and assisting with laundry needs and other general tasks around the shelter. Dog volunteers are required to be 18 years or older, must complete a training session with a staff member and when available, dog walking training session with our trainer.
Cats & Small Animals (Junior* / Adults) takes place between 8:30 – 12:00. Tasks include, cleaning and tidying cages and outside runs, and assisting with laundry needs and other tasks around the shelter. These jobs are very important as they help maintain a clean living environment for all our animals. There is also time to socialize and spend time with the animals. *Note: the Junior Volunteer Program runs on Saturdays and Sundays only.
Community Service Program for students that need to perform community service for a community project or anyone passionate about animal welfare and would just like to help the animals at the Bermuda SPCA. Find details here
Junior Volunteer Program Update:
Minimum Age Change: The minimum age to volunteer at the Bermuda SPCA shelter has been adjusted. Junior volunteers must now be at least 16 years of age to participate in volunteer activities on site at the shelter.
Younger individuals aged 13 to 15 years old can still continue to earn community service hours until they are able to join us to assist at the shelter, by participating in our community service program, which includes:
- Service Learning and Community Outreach Projects: Projects that raise awareness in their communities, such as fundraising and donation drive.
- Creating Animal Enrichment items and treats for the shelter animals: make homemade toys and treats for our dogs, cats, rabbits & guinea pigs, so they can have a fun and enriched life while at our shelter. Find details here
- Workshops: younger individuals can also participate in specific activities designed for their age group to better prepare them for on-site roles.
