Volunteer and make a difference……one animal at a time!
The Bermuda SPCA operates with the assistance of many volunteers who work at the shelter and in a variety of fundraising, advocacy and education roles. These individuals assist with activities including dog walking, dog training, cat wellness, rabbit and small animal care, special events, fundraising, advocacy and so much more.
Volunteers are a highly valued resource to our society and make a tremendous difference to the lives of so many animals.
Junior volunteer programme is open to youth 14 years and older on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the year. Junior volunteers are asked to commit to three hours in the morning or three hours in the afternoon over a consecutive three month period. They can expect to help with the cleaning, general care and maintenance of the shelter and our animals. A mandatory orientation is held prior to the new rotation.
Dog Walking (Adults only) takes place between 9am – 11am and 1pm – 3pm. In the summer months the afternoon walks maybe restricted to the property around the shelter. Dog walkers are required to be 18 years or older, must complete an orientation and shadow an experienced walker initially.
Shelter volunteer’s work closely with our Animal Care staff to help make sure the 5 freedoms can be met at all times. Tasks include, cleaning and tidying cat runs/kennels, providing exercise and play time and assisting with laundry needs. These jobs are very important as they help maintain a clean living environment for all our animals. There is also time to socialize and spend time with the animals. Volunteers are asked to commit to a regular hours/day where possible.
